Traveling around in Chigaco

Traveling around the City of Chicago is made very easy with the public transportation system in the City. It boasts the second largest transportation system in the United States, second only to New York City. The city has also promoted the use of bicycles, creating miles of on-street bicycle lanes that the city maintains as well as trails that are bicycle only trails. There are over 10,000 bike racks throughout the city and even the city buses have bike racks available.

There are three major airports that provide service to Chicago. Two that are in Chicago, the O'Hare airport which is the second busiest airport in the United States for traffic in and out of the airport, and second in the World in terms of passengers passing through. It has also been voted the Best Airport in North America by readers of Business Travel Magazine and Global Traveler Magazine.

The Chicago Midway International Airport is the cities second airport. This airport is closer to the cities business and financial districts. The airport covers 320 acres and has 8 runways. Southwest Airlines and AirTran transport the most passengers from Chicago Midway. Both of these airports the O'Hare and the Midway are owned and operated by the City of Chicago.

The third airport that services Chicago is located in nearby Gary, Indiana. The Gary/Chicago International Airport. This airport was given the approval of $48 million in Federal funding in 2006 to expand. There is plenty of expansion room for this airport and placing funds for expansion here makes sense rather then expanding on an already large O'Hare airport. The Gary/Chicago is also close enough to the city that it is convenient.

Taxis are readily available in Chicago as well. A good idea would be to plot your route on a map to make sure the taxi drivers are not taking long routes and charging you more. Not all taxi drivers are going to do this but there are always a few that will try. One good place to plot your route is Google maps. You can plot your route from your start point to your destination, which will give you a good idea on the best route to take. Most of the People in Chicago use public tranportaion to go to school, college and universities while some use bicycles to go to their jobs.

As you can see there are plenty of travel accomodations within the City of Chicago like car rental service and public tranportation. When you get into some of the lovelier sections of the city, where there are plenty of sights and places to rest, a good old fashioned walk will do wanders as well.
